SAP S/4HANA Group Reporting Release 2402 – New APIs for master data (consolidation units and group positions)

Master data maintenance for most master data in S/4HANA Group Reporting takes place directly in the application via the FIORI apps. This is not particularly efficient for mass changes, so since the 2020 release there has been the option of importing the master data from the import file.

Which master data do you change most often?
In most cases these are consolidation units that change monthly (completely or only certain settings). For some companies, the position plan is also a living construct that is sometimes adjusted several times a year. Importing the master data from Excel covers most of the requirements for the system.

But what if you want to use a central system for master data maintenance and release? For example an MDGF or MDM? Does the master data always have to be downloaded into Excel in order to be able to import it from there into Group Reporting?
Since this release (2402) it is no longer necessary. An API interface was delivered which allows the master data for the consolidation units and group positions to be automatically synchronized with external systems via an interface.

What was made possible?

  • The Consolidation units it is a full CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) interface. So all attributes (irrelevant whether delivered by SAP or customer's own) can be created, replaced or deleted.
  • Basic attributes: e.g. description short and medium, long, left
  • Time-dependent attributes: e.g. local currency and S/4 company number
  • Time and version dependent attributes: Partner unit identifier, tax rate, currency conversion method, upload method, selections for data transfer, partner selection, booking rule selection, validation selection
  • Text names: in different languages
  • Custom Attributes:

The Group positions A CRU (Create, Read, Update) interface has been delivered. SAP has forgone the option of deleting group positions. In addition, it is not possible to delete the positions via an integrated app; only the switch to booking and entry blocking is possible.

** It is entirely possible to completely delete the positions using the special app if not a single data record with this position is booked in the system. However, such changes require careful review**

So all attributes (regardless of whether they are delivered by SAP or customer's own) can be created or replaced.

  • Basic attributes: e.g. description short and medium, item plan, item type, account assignment type, booking and entry block etc
  • Time and version dependent attributes: Position role, selection attributes for data transfer, currency conversion, elimination, cash flow, validations. Target attributes for eliminations, minorities, planning positions, offsets.
  • Text names: in different languages
  • Custom Attributes:
