For years we have had the option in Group Reporting to save the consolidation unit hierarchies based on time. This means that each consolidation unit hierarchy has a “valid from” and “valid to” parameter, which allows you to save and maintain the time-dependent history of group structures under a technical hierarchy name.
This functionality was not applicable to the group position plan until the current release.
In the “Manage Global Hierarchies” app you can now assign the validity period to the position hierarchies. This means that the hierarchy is copied with the same technical name and changed with the new validity period.
To achieve this, the “Copy” button is selected and the “Copy to existing hierarchy” option is selected from the new drop-down menu.
In the popup menu you specify the new validity period of the hierarchy. If necessary, the reference text is given to better distinguish between the versions.
All existing versions of the hierarchy with their validity periods are displayed on the left.
We see that the previously existing hierarchy was not delimited (“valid until” was not adjusted).
After adjusting the validity, the new version can be successfully activated.
In reporting (irrespective of whether via the “Group Data Analysis” app, via Analysis for Office or via “Review Booklet”), a key date for the report is requested. This key date indicates which version of the hierarchies the data will be displayed in the report.
This also makes it possible to display older periods with the new hierarchies or vice versa.
